DESCRIPTION: WW - Rolex Oyster Cosmograph Daytona "Big Red," ref 6263, circa 1979, 37mm x 45mm to lug tips, 19mm lug width, original stainless steel screw back Oyster case with Bakelite and stainless steel tachymeter bezel, matching MK2 steel screw down pushers, original stainless steel Oyster bracelet, original black "reverse panda" dial with applied silver baton indices with luminous pip at edge, three inset subregisters for minute recording, hour recording and subsidiary seconds, 17J cal 727, adjusted to 3 positions, s#6153280, triple signed with signed clasp, bracelet reference 78350-19 with the correct 571 end links, date code F, inside back ref 6263. A lovely unadulterated Daytona that looks just as good today as the day it left Geneva. This is the exact model Paul Newman wore for many years following his gift of the famed "Paul Newman" dialed 6239 to his daughter's boyfriend. Note: At some point the original owner saw it as necessary to scribe the serial number on the bracelet as well as the last 4 digits on the physical movement plate (see image 10) and inside case back (see image 11).
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, chronograph functions and resets properly, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, no oxide, very light fine scratches to plates as well as the aforementioned "3280" near the Y bridge; excellent-plus dial with several small spots on the white subregisters as well as several incredibly fine scratches on the hour recorder; excellent hands with light surface spotting; polished case shows very little wear, retains some of its original factory finishing, last four digits of serial number scribed inside case back as mentioned above, light dings on bezel perimeter at 1 and 8, light dings on the backs of the lugs from being worn on a bracelet as well as light scratches from bracelet removal; bracelet shows very little wear (but has serial number of watch scribed to it as explained above); original Rolex signed Triplock crown shows hardly any wear, screw down pushers show little wear, good threads; good crystal; resealed for auction.
